Prayers for Our Community

Our thoughts and prayers are with those in our community this year as we remember those who have passed away:


Grady William "Jack" Black, 82, died Wednesday, January 18, 2017, in Self Regional Medical Center. Born in Saluda County, a son of the late Grady Leon and Eula Leaphart Black, he was the husband of Emma Susie Rodgers Black. Mr. Black had retired from the South Carolina National Guard after serving 30 years, and was a retired dairy and beef farmer. He was a member of St. Williams Catholic Church and the Saluda County Cattleman's Association and he was active in the Young Farmers Association. Surviving are his wife, Emma Susie Rodgers Black, three sons, Homer William Black (Robin) of Saluda, Darryl Glenn Black (Tiffany) of St. John, IN, and Ronnie Keith Black of Saluda, a sister, Ruby Keisler of Lexington, three grandchildren, Jan Barr (Derek), Crystal Black and Ellen Black, and four great-grandchildren, Emma Black, Alex Cochran, Adalyn Cochran and Ellison Barr. Mr. Black was preceded in death by a son, Robert Black. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 2 p.m. Friday, January 20, 2017, at St. Williams Catholic Church with Father Robert Higgins officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 1 until 2 p.m. on Friday at the church prior to the service. Memorials may be made to St. Williams Catholic Church, 1199 Ridge Spring Hwy., Ward, SC 29166.


Funeral Mass for Leona R. Wilson, 92, will be conducted 6:00 p.m. Thursday (Rosary at 5:00 p.m.) at St. William's Catholic Church with Rev. Father Robert F. Higgins officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. Memorials may be made to St. William's Catholic Church, 1199 Ridge Spring Hwy., Ward, SC 29166. Barr-Price Funeral Home and Crematorium, Historic B-L Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Wilson passed away Monday, January 30, 2017. Born in Ward, she was a daughter of the late David Lewis and Rebecca Ellen Forrest Rodgers. She was a member of St. William's Catholic Church and retired from textiles. Surviving are a son, Richard "Ricky" L. Wilson; sister, Ora Gillian; grandchildren, Michelle (Jamie) Drawdy, Melissa Busbee, Stacy (Lacey) Busbee, Katrina (Danny) Doubrava, and Rebecca (James) Stone; 11 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Richard C. "Sheep" Wilson, daughter Joye W. Shealy, 1 brother and 3 sisters.
